Progressive Brake Lights

Brake lights could be arranged in a series of 3 bulbs that turn on sequentially, depending on the degree of braking applied. This would warn the person following them how fast they are decelerating, preventing rear-end accidents and increasing the amount of information available to drivers around you on the road.

  1. A friend had this same idea before and probably around the year 2000. Why has this not hit the market??

We worried, when speeding past a cop, the cop would catch that you had braked so hard to regain normal speed limits that your breaks are now at a 3. He then would proceed to pull you over on the spot.

    Paranoid. I know.

  2. Where did you get the pictures? Have you already retrofitted a 1974 Torino for your experiment?

  3. I'm not sure why it's not on the market yet. Maybe too distracting to motorists behind you? Such sequential arrays exist on ambulances and other vehicles as turn signals I believe, but I've never seen them hooked up to the degree of braking.

The picture is just photoshopped. Is it a 74 Torino, Jeff? Ha! nice!

  4. People barely pay attention to full-size cars...I wonder if they would pay attention to something as detailed as how many lights are on.
